Indonesia Prepares Pleasant Surprises for Businesses
Jakarta. The government has unveiled plans for some pleasant surprises for businesses, although the details remain scant.
According to Deputy Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Dradjad Hari Wibowo, the government is never anti-business, saying that they have only wanted to improve compliance.
The better the compliance, the bigger the economic boons that business activities can generate.
“Corporations are our strategic partner in achieving growth, equal economic distribution, and stability. … That’s why we will have new initiatives that will really make businesses happy,” Dradjad said at the Investor Daily Summit on Thursday.
“So, don’t miss the train. I hope [companies] continue to engage with the government.”
Dradjad hinted that the initiatives could deal with regulations, while others are “from an economic transformation standpoint”.
“The time will come [to make the announcement],” the senior economist told the press.
He refused to disclose the rollout timeline.
Indonesia had just introduced new stimulus packages for 2027, including an extended government-borne income tax. Under the new regime, all workers paid under Rp 10 million ($559) will enjoy this incentive, regardless of the sectors they are in.
Former lawmaker Dradjad has only been in the cabinet for a week. In a surprise reshuffle last week, President Prabowo Subianto decided to appoint a vice minister under economic tsar Airlangga Hartarto, a position that had remained vacant for decades.
Indonesia aims to grow by 6% in 2027, which Dradjad said could be a building block to Prabowo's 8% target.
Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani recently told the same conference that Jakarta would aggressively pursue reforms to improve its investment climate. He also admitted that the investment inflows would be needed to drive the economy.
