Indonesia, Germany Eye Deeper Ties in Green Energy, Semiconductors
Jakarta. Indonesia and Germany are looking to deepen economic cooperation in green energy, semiconductor supply chains and vocational education, as both countries seek to advance projects already in the pipeline.
Chief of Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartarto discussed the potential areas of cooperation during a meeting with Germany’s Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Reem Alabali Radovan, at his office in Jakarta on Thursday.
Airlangga said Indonesia welcomed the German delegation and was seeking to accelerate renewable energy projects, including the development of large-scale solar power plants, as the country works to increase the share of renewables in its energy mix.
“Indonesia welcomes this delegation to advance several pipeline projects in the renewable energy sector. For Indonesia, strengthening semiconductor supply chains is also important,” Airlangga said.
The two sides also discussed vocational education, an area where Germany’s experience in technical training could offer opportunities for deeper cooperation.
Germany remains one of Indonesia’s key economic partners, with more than 250 German companies operating in the country. Cumulative German investment in Indonesia reached approximately $1.23 billion ($21.84 billion) between 2021 and 2026.
Airlangga and Radovan also discussed the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (EU-CEPA), which Indonesia hopes to sign this year.
The agreement is expected to expand trade and investment opportunities and strengthen Indonesia’s integration with the European market.
“We also discussed the EU-CEPA, which we hope can be signed this year,” Airlangga said.
