Jakarta. The Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) has provided import duties exemptions for crucial equipment used in the development of the Nusantara Capital (IKN), including Autonomous Rail Transit (ART), flying taxis, and electric motors.

“All of these items were imported through Semayang Port in Balikpapan with a seamless customs clearance process,” said Wijaya Arif Nurrochman, spokesperson for Balikpapan Customs, on Monday.

Wijaya detailed that ART is a battery-powered rail-less train guided by road markings and magnets. A unit of ART from China arrived in Balikpapan in early August for testing, aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and conserving energy, in line with IKN’s vision as a sustainable smart city.

“The ART import process utilized the temporary importation service with ATA (Admission Temporaire/Temporary Admission) Carnet, which exempts import duties and taxes, provided the item is re-exported within one year,” Wijaya explained.

Wijaya also highlighted that Customs facilitated the import of Optionally Piloted Personal/Passenger Air Vehicles (OPPAVs), or flying taxis. Imported on May 30, these futuristic vehicles are set for testing as modern mobility solutions in Nusantara. Like ART, OPPAVs benefited from duty and tax exemptions under the temporary importation service, with customs value exemptions totaling Rp107.7 million. OPPAVs are authorized to remain in Indonesia for up to three years before re-export.

Additionally, Customs assisted in the import of two electric motors, or water pumps, on June 10, intended for the potable water supply in IKN. These pumps, processed through Balikpapan Customs, are vital for ensuring reliable water supply in the developing IKN area.

“With these measures, Customs not only aids in the smooth development of IKN but also ensures that all import processes adhere to regulations, significantly advancing this national project,” Wijaya concluded.
