Jakarta. Fuel consumption of Pertamax gasoline rose 11.8% ahead of Eid al-Fitr, as holiday travel accelerated, according to data from state energy firm Pertamina.

Pertamax (RON 92) demand increased from normal daily levels as prices climbed to Rp12,300 ($0.73) per liter on March 20, up from Rp11,800 in February. Several other fuel products showed similar trends.

Pertamina's spokesperson Muhammad Baron said the increase in Pertamax usage signals a shift in consumer preference toward higher-quality fuel for long-distance travel.

“Holiday travel involves longer distances and dynamic traffic conditions. Many consumers choose the Pertamax Series to maintain optimal vehicle performance,” Baron said in a statement.

The premium-grade Pertamax Green (RON 95) posted the sharpest rise in consumption, surging 94.7% from normal levels. Its price increased to Rp12,900 per liter from Rp12,450.

Meanwhile, Pertamax Turbo — targeted at high-performance vehicles — saw demand rise 34.5%, with prices climbing to Rp13,100 per liter from Rp12,700.

Diesel products also recorded price increases. Dexlite rose to Rp14,200 per liter from Rp13,250, while Pertamina Dex climbed to Rp14,500 from Rp13,500.

The adjustments have been in effect since March 1, 2026, across fuel providers. Subsidized fuels remain unchanged, with Pertalite (RON 90) at Rp10,000 per liter and subsidized diesel at Rp6,800. Similar pricing adjustments have been observed at other retailers, including Shell, BP-AKR, and Vivo Energy Indonesia.

To meet rising demand, Pertamina has boosted supply and deployed additional services along major routes, including 24-hour fuel stations, mobile refueling units and energy service points.

The company also urged the public to conserve fuel, citing ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East that continue to influence global energy markets.
