Government Injects Rp 55 Trillion to Strengthen BRI’s MSME Lending
Jakarta. Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) has received Rp 55 trillion ($3.3 billion) from the government, part of a broader Rp 200 trillion ($12.1 billion) placement across five state-owned banks (Himbara) under Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa’s policy to strengthen banking liquidity and support economic growth. BRI, Bank Mandiri, and BNI each received Rp 55 trillion, while BTN and BSI received Rp 25 trillion and Rp 10 trillion, respectively.
BRI President Director Hery Gunardi said the funds would be directed to the real economy, particularly micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), which are the backbone of Indonesia’s economy. “This policy reflects government support for financial stability. BRI will ensure financing continues to flow to UMKM and other priority programs that drive jobs and stimulate economic activity,” Hery said on Friday.
As of June 2025, BRI’s total loan portfolio reached Rp 1,416.6 trillion ($86.1 billion), up 6 percent year on year, with MSMEs loans accounting for 80 percent of total lending. Through the Ultra Mikro (UMi) holding with Pegadaian and PNM, BRI serves 34.7 million active borrowers and manages 126 million micro savings accounts.
Between January and August 2025, BRI disbursed Rp 114.28 trillion in Kredit Usaha Rakyat (KUR) loans to 2.5 million debtors, supporting MSMEs suppliers in the government’s free nutritious meal program. The bank also provided Rp 14.21 trillion in housing finance liquidity facilities (FLPP) to 103,807 low-income households under the 3-million-home program.
“With our extensive network and capabilities, we are confident in expanding financing access nationwide while contributing to sustainable economic growth,” Hery added.
