Geely Starts Local Manufacturing of EX2 EV, Deepens Indonesia Footprint
Jakarta. Chinese automaker Geely has officially begun production of its latest electric vehicle model, the EX2, in Indonesia, the company announced on Monday.
The EX2 becomes the third Geely model to be manufactured locally, following a production trial phase that has been underway since May 2025. The move builds on Geely’s earlier local assembly of the Starray EM-i and the Geely EX5, carried out in partnership with local manufacturing firm Handal Indonesia Motor.
According to Geely Auto Indonesia, the assembly facility has a production capacity of up to 60 vehicles per day, supporting the company’s growing lineup in the Indonesian market.
Geely Auto Indonesia CEO Wu Chuxing said the start of EX2 production reflects the company’s readiness to meet domestic demand with vehicles that combine global standards and local relevance. The EX2 has achieved a local content level (TKDN) of 46.5%, involving a broad network of domestic component suppliers.
“The presence of our production facilities in Indonesia demonstrates Geely’s strong commitment to making the country a key automotive base in Southeast Asia,” Wu said in a statement.
He added that market interest in the EX2 has been robust, with pre-bookings exceeding 1,000 units since reservations opened in November 2025.
“In the near future, we will announce the official pricing for the Indonesian market,” Wu said.
As part of its electrification strategy, Geely is also working with global battery manufacturer Gotion to supply battery cells for the EX2. The batteries use a Cell-to-Pack (CTP) system combined with liquid cooling technology, designed to enhance safety and performance.
