Jakarta. National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia has addressed recent speculations surrounding its potential merger with Aviasi Pariwisata Indonesia (InJourney), a state-owned enterprise holding company in the tourism and aviation sector.

Tumpal Manumpak Hutapea, the Director of Operations at Garuda Indonesia, said discussions regarding the merger are still underway, and the company commits to providing updates on the progress when significant developments arise.

"We will keep stakeholders informed about the advancements in the process or realization of these strategic plans," Tumpal said in a released statement on Friday.

While expressing a positive view and support for the merger plan, Tumpal highlighted that Garuda's endorsement is subject to a meticulous examination of the company's business outlook. This aligns with the State-Owned Enterprises Ministry's goal to enhance the national air transportation industry's competitiveness.

"Various substantial aspects related to the merger plan are currently under careful and continuous examination, in close collaboration with the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises and other pertinent stakeholders," Tumpal explained.

InJourney's subsidiaries include airport operators Angkasa Pura I and PT Angkasa Pura II, tourism company Taman Wisata Candi overseeing the Borobudur, Prambanan, and Ratu Boko Temples, Hotel Indonesia Natour, Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation, and state-owned mall Sarinah.
