Bahlil Says Fuel Stocks Secure, No Price Hike Needed
Jakarta. Indonesia will not raise fuel prices as national reserves remain above safe levels, supported by additional output from the newly operational Balikpapan refinery in East Kalimantan, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said on Tuesday.
“Our fuel reserves are above national standards for diesel, gasoline, aviation fuel, and LPG,” Bahlil said during a press conference streamed on the government’s official YouTube channel.
While he did not disclose the total volume of reserves, Bahlil stressed that supply levels are sufficient, allowing Indonesia to avoid following other countries that have raised fuel prices amid a surge in global crude oil prices linked to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
“This means there will be no adjustment in fuel prices. I urge the public to rely on official government information,” he said, referring to recent panic buying at gas stations driven by rumors of price hikes.
Bahlil said domestic fuel supply has been significantly strengthened by the Balikpapan refinery, which began operations earlier this year.
“The Balikpapan refinery, inaugurated in January, produces 5.6 million kiloliters of gasoline and 4.5 million kiloliters of diesel annually,” he said.
With increased domestic refining capacity, Indonesia is expected to shift its energy import structure toward crude oil rather than refined fuel products, he added.
