AION to Begin Local EV Assembly in Indonesia by Early 2025
Bandung. Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer AION is set to begin local assembly of its models in Indonesia starting in early 2025.
“We will begin production early next year and aim to accelerate the local assembly process,” AION CEO Andry Ciu stated in Bandung on Thursday.
The local assembly will encompass all AION models, including new releases.
“Next year, all models will be assembled locally, but we will start with one type, followed by others. The Y Plus will lead the way in the first quarter of 2025, hopefully without delays,” Andry explained.

The assembly will take place at AION's new facility, currently under construction in Cikampek, Karawang Regency, West Java.
AION plans to meet the required 40 percent domestic component levels (TKDN) by 2027 and gradually increase local content to 80 percent in the production process.
The Cikampek facility has an initial production capacity of 30,000 units, with room for expansion.
“For the Indonesian market, this capacity is more than sufficient. The first batch will be 30,000 units, and we can expand further as there is plenty of space,” Andry said.
Currently, all AION models sold in Indonesia are fully imported (Completely Built-Up/CBU) from China.
In September 2024, 500 units of the AION Y Plus, shipped from China, arrived in Indonesia and began deliveries to customers.
