Jokowi's BTS Initiative Boosts Internet Access for Residents in Beautiful Sijunjung
Jakarta. Under President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's decade-long administration, the construction of base transceiver stations (BTS) in Sijunjung Regency, West Sumatra, has significantly improved internet connectivity in the region, enabling residents and students to access vital online resources despite the challenges posed by its hilly terrain.
Although Sijunjung Regency is only three hours from the capital of West Sumatra Province, Padang City, its varied topography, consisting of hills and rolling terrain, complicates connectivity.
Heries, the Acting Village Head of Koto Tuo, said that the region's topographical conditions affect internet signal reliability. During President Jokowi's tenure, the government has constructed many 4G BTS stations, including in Koto Tuo. Through the Telecommunication and Information Accessibility Agency (BAKTI) program initiated by the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, internet signals have reached remote areas of Sijunjung Regency.
"Indeed, some parents in the villages are not accustomed to the internet, but one parent of a student really needs it for their children's education," he told Beritasatu.com recently.
With the construction of the BTS in their area, residents of Koto Tuo feel greatly assisted, as students can now access a wealth of knowledge online.
"I hope that the children will receive a higher education and make progress so they can become valuable individuals for the nation," he added.
Doni Aries from the Infrastructure Division of the Sijunjung Regency Communication and Information Office mentioned that before the BTS tower was built, teachers and students had to travel to a neighboring village to access the internet.
"The internet connection can also be utilized by teachers at SDN 32 Muaro Sijunjung Elementary School. Hopefully, with the tower constructed by the government, teachers and students won’t need to go to the neighboring village anymore," he said.
Fitranella, the Principal of SDN 32 Muaro Sijunjung, expressed gratitude to the government, particularly President Jokowi, for the BTS construction. She hopes this facility will enhance the teaching and learning process at the school.
"Thank you, Mr. Jokowi. This BTS will greatly assist teachers and students in completing assignments and exams," she said.
Furthermore, Dini Rahmawati, Head of the IT Division of the Sijunjung Regency Communication and Information Office, said that while Sijunjung Regency is known for its beautiful nature, some areas still experience blank spots without internet coverage.
"Therefore, one of our development priorities is digital transformation by building 115 BTS, which will serve as the telecommunications sky bridge in Sijunjung Regency. Additionally, Sijunjung Regency is focusing on developing human resources and the economy," she concluded.
