Geneva. Justice Minister Supratman Andi Agtas reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to accelerating digital transformation in order to enhance intellectual property (IP) protection, during the 66th General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland, on Tuesday.

In his address to representatives of 193 member states and international stakeholders, Supratman stressed that Indonesia’s push for digitalization in the IP sector is a strategic response to the rapid evolution of technology and the innovation-driven global economy.

“Indonesia aspires to be an active player in shaping a globally inclusive and competitive intellectual property ecosystem,” he stated.

All IP-related services in Indonesia are now fully digital, covering application submission, post-application processing, complaint handling, and information requests, he said.

“Our goal is to deliver IP services that are faster, more transparent, inclusive, and accessible to both the public and business actors. We are exploring various technologies, including those offered by WIPO, to boost productivity and improve system accessibility,” Supratman said.

This digital transformation has significantly boosted IP filings in Indonesia over the past decade. In the first half of 2025, the country recorded 152,115 IP applications -- a 20 percent increase from 126,744 filings during the same period in 2024.

Copyrights accounted for the majority with 78,209 filings, followed by 64,388 trademark applications. Patent and industrial design filings also increased to 5,831 and 3,668, respectively.

Supratman added that Indonesia is also updating its national legal framework with revisions to the Patent Law, Industrial Design Law, and Copyright Law. These legislative updates aim to provide greater legal certainty and better protection for creators and innovators in an adaptive manner.

On the sidelines of the WIPO General Assembly, Indonesia hosted a special exhibition titled “Local Roots, Global Reach: Showcasing Indonesia’s Intellectual Properties.” The showcase featured leading creative works and products rooted in the country’s rich cultural heritage and local innovation.

“We invite all delegates to visit our exhibition, enjoy the featured works, and engage directly with the creators,” Supratman said.

Indonesia also expressed appreciation for WIPO’s continued technical assistance, particularly in IP commercialization, SME development, and the branding of Geographical Indications. The government reiterated its commitment to supporting international cooperation in building a fair and sustainable global IP protection system.

The WIPO General Assembly is the organization’s highest annual decision-making forum, attended by member states, international organizations, and key stakeholders. From Indonesia, Supratman was joined by Presidential Special Staff for Creative Economy, Yovie Widianto.
