Jakarta. Multinational IT consultant Devoteam G Cloud has partnered with Google Cloud to modernize rural banks (BPR) in Indonesia, following the bankruptcy of several of these banks in 2024.

As of May 2024, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) had revoked the licenses of 11 BPRs. The Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) has paid out Rp 300 billion in deposit claims to customers of these banks.

Fanly Tanto, Country Director for Google Cloud, said on Monday that in this digital era, BPRs and Sharia rural banks (BPRS) can enhance their services by adopting the latest technological advancements.

Since 2023, OJK has consistently urged BPRs and BPRSs to digitalize their operations for greater efficiency.

"Significant advancements can be made in the BPR/BPRS industry by using technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning algorithms for customer data verification, marketing plan formulation, and detecting unusual activities," he said.

To promote digitalization in the financial services industry, Devoteam and Google Cloud co-hosted an event titled "Getting to Know Google Cloud for The Financial Services Industry," which was attended by over 100 BPRs from across Indonesia.

The event aimed to familiarize BPR/BPRS with various Google Cloud tools that can elevate their business operations.

"Technology can simplify the account opening process, making it more straightforward, time-efficient, and accessible anytime and anywhere, especially as many customers now demand 24-hour service," Fanly explained.

Komang Mertayasa, Devoteam G Cloud's Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning Engineer, added that generative AI could help BPR/BPRS quickly and efficiently enhance business operations, improve customer service, increase operational efficiency, and transform financial data management.
