Telkom, PGN Partner to Build Green Digital Infrastructure Ecosystem
Jakarta. PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk and PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk (PGN) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to integrate digital infrastructure with low-carbon energy supply, marking a step toward developing sustainable data centers.
The signing of the agreement was carried out by Telkom CEO Dian Siswarini and PGN CEO Arief Kurnia Risdianto in Jakarta on Friday. Also present were Bhimo Aryanto, Senior Director of Business Performance and Assets Optimization at Danantara Indonesia; Seno Soemadji, Director of Strategic Portfolio at Telkom; Catur Dermawan, Director of Finance at PGN; and Mirza Mahendra, Director of Strategy & Business Development at PGN, as a show of support for strengthening cross-sector synergy in accelerating digital transformation and the national energy transition.
In this partnership, Telkom acts as a developer of digital and data center ecosystems that require low-emission energy supply, including biomethane, to support the operations of TelkomGroup’s data centers. Meanwhile, PGN provides this energy through the use of biomethane derived from palm oil waste in Sumatra. The scope of the cooperation includes joint studies and exploring the implementation of green energy in TelkomGroup’s data center ecosystem, both domestically and internationally. This step serves as an important foundation to ensure the availability of reliable green energy as a key factor in developing efficient and sustainable next-generation data centers.
Senior Director of Business Performance and Assets Optimization at Danantara Indonesia, Bhimo Aryanto, said that this collaboration is a strategic step to strengthen synergy among state-owned enterprises as well as global partners. "We see this collaboration as an important momentum to strengthen integration between the digital and energy sectors. The synergy built will not only create efficiency, but also open up opportunities for sustainable value creation, as well as strengthen Indonesia’s position in the regional digital ecosystem," Bhimo said.
On the same occasion, President Director of Telkom Dian Siswarini emphasized that this collaboration is a strategic step in strengthening synergy among state-owned enterprises to support the development of reliable and sustainable national digital infrastructure. “This collaboration supports the readiness of clean and efficient energy for the development of sustainable data centers, while also strengthening Indonesia’s digital sovereignty and encouraging Indonesia as a regional digital hub. This is in line with TelkomGroup’s ambition to become a digital infrastructure powerhouse in the region,” said Dian.
In Indonesia, there are five strategic areas for the development of TelkomGroup data centers that have the potential to be supported by PGN’s energy supply, such as Cikarang, Batam, Serpong, Sentul, and Surabaya. These areas are already integrated with PGN’s existing gas pipeline network, thus enabling the optimization of existing infrastructure while opening opportunities for the development of new networks.
In response to this, PGN President Director Arief Kurnia Risdianto highlighted the strategic role of biomethane as one of the driving forces of PGN’s business transformation toward a low-carbon era. “PGN has moved beyond merely being a conventional natural gas provider, but also as a clean energy provider that serves as the foundation for future infrastructure. This biomethane initiative for data centers opens up new value-added opportunities while supporting the national energy transition,” Arief explained.
In line with strengthening domestic cooperation with PGN, TelkomGroup is also continuing to expand global collaboration in developing a green digital infrastructure ecosystem, one of which is through a partnership with Sembcorp Development Ltd. Through TelkomGroup’s data center entity, NeutraDC, the cooperation has been established since 2025 and is focused on exploring integration between digital infrastructure, platforms, as well as sustainable energy services.
This global collaboration includes the development of integrated solutions based on low-carbon energy to support operations as well as the needs of enterprise customers. Through this approach, all parties seek to strengthen an end-to-end strategy, ranging from the availability of green energy on the upstream side (supply), the availability of electricity, to the development of integrated solutions on the downstream side (use case and commercialization).
The synergy between domestic and global collaboration is expected to create a more comprehensive ecosystem in supporting the development of AI-ready green data centers, while also strengthening TelkomGroup’s positioning as a key player in the regional digital ecosystem.
The signing of this MoU marks an important momentum for TelkomGroup in demonstrating its role as an enabler of a globally competitive national digital ecosystem, while also strengthening PGN’s position in the development and provision of low-carbon energy for future digital infrastructure. By integrating the strengths of digital infrastructure and sustainable energy, both parties are optimistic that they can deliver innovative, scalable, and world-class solutions, as well as provide added value for customers and all stakeholders.
