PTPP Inks $49.3 Million Contract for Karian-Serpong Water Project
Jakarta. State-run construction firm PTPP announced Monday that it had inked a $49.3 million contract for the Karian-Serpong Water Conveyance System Package 2.
According to PTPP, the contract reflects the company's commitment to expanding water access and improving the welfare of the people living in the western part of Jakarta and its surroundings. PTPP will work on the project for 20 months, starting October 2025 to May 2027. It is expected to serve 1,155,806 households' water pipelines in Banten, Jakarta, and West Java.
PTPP’s corporate secretary Joko Raharjo said that the contract aligned with what President Prabowo Subianto had aimed: equitable access to clean water.
"The signing of this project marks a major step in providing reliable and sustainable water. We want to make sure that the families living in the Greater Jakarta area and surroundings enjoy broader and more equitable access to clean water,” Joko said.
Untreated water from the Karian Dam in Lebak Regency, Banten, will be channeled through the Ciuyah Tunnel with a discharge rate of 12.4 m³ per second. The water will then be channeled through a network of 2-meter and 1.8-meter diameter steel pipes totaling 59.6 kilometers to six beneficiary areas: Lebak Regency, Tangerang Regency, Tangerang City, South Tangerang City, West Jakarta, and Bogor.
PTPP is also adopting the latest aerial mapping technology using LiDAR-enabled UAVs (drones) equipped with vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) capabilities. This technology enables high-resolution aerial surveys of large, hard-to-reach areas, producing high-precision 3D maps to ensure design accuracy, construction efficiency, and work safety.
"The implementation of LiDAR and VTOL is part of PTPP's digital transformation to increase project productivity and accuracy. This technology-based approach also supports the principles of green and efficient development," Joko said.
PTPP will also work with other agencies to make sure that the project adheres to strict safety standards and environmental impact mitigation.
"The Karian-Serpong untreated water distribution system will provide direct benefits to communities in densely populated areas and industrial areas. We believe this project is not just a physical development, but also an investment in a cleaner and more sustainable future," Joko said.
