Jakarta. Indonesia recently promoted its mining sector at a trade convention in Toronto.

The 2026 Mining Trade Show & Convention, Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) recently took place in Metro Toronto Convention Centre on March 1-4. This is one of the world's largest mineral conventions that bring together investors, mining companies, financial institutions, and governments from various countries. Indonesian coal miner PT Multi Makmur was hoping to look for partnerships by taking part in the event.

"We hope to curate potential local and international companies for partnerships. We hope this will boost  exports from Indonesia's mining sector and provide lessons on environmental management practices and corporate social responsibility," PT Multi Makmur owner Hendra was quoted as saying in a press statement.

According to Indonesian Ambassador to Canada Muhsin Syihab, the presence of Indonesian companies reflect how national companies are ready to enter the global mineral ecosystem.

"It demonstrates our commitment to expanding market access, strengthening investment networks, and introducing the potential of the national mining sector to international investors," he said.

Mahdewi Silky, the trade attaché at the Indonesian Embassy in Ottawa, said that PDAC was not only a major forum for investors. It also provides strategic benefits for Indonesia in promoting the potential of the national mining sector.

"This forum is an excellent opportunity for investors to gain a closer look at the potential of Indonesia's mining sector. PT Multi Makmur's participation in PDAC is a positive first step in opening up opportunities for future collaboration between Indonesia and Canada in the mining sector," Mahadewi said.

Indonesia's presence at the event also reflects collaboration between the government and businesses in cementing Indonesia's role in the global critical minerals ecosystem.
