Over 120 Musicians Perform at The Sounds Project
Jakarta. Hundreds of musicians performed live at the Sounds Project over the weekend as the music festival seeks to bring a bigger line-up next year.
The Sounds Project recently took place on August 7-9 at Ecovention & Ecopark, Ancol. Under the "Beyond Memories" theme, over 120 Indonesian and international musicians performed across seven different stages. This made the Sounds Project Vol. 9 one of the biggest music events of the year with almost hundreds of thousands of spectators.
Neck Deep (UK), Nusantara Beat (Netherlands), and JET (Australia) became the international headliners. Top Indonesian musicians such as Tulus, Bernadya, Hindia, Nidji, and more also enlivened the stage.
"We started out as a small campus event. The Sounds Project continued to grow to a large-scale festival without abandoning the spirit of providing space for the younger generation," The Sounds Project festival director Gerhana Banyubiru said.
"We will prepare something even better for next year. It looks like we’ll have an even larger line-up of both local and international acts next year."
This year, The Sounds Project partnered with Extra Joss Ultimate to gather nearly 300 bands and communities. These bands earned the chance to perform at the TSP Squad Stage Presented by Extra Joss Ultimate, thus opening up space for up-and-coming musicians and campus bands.
TSP Academy also recruited campus photographers in collaboration with Live Avenue to document various moments throughout the festival.
By collaborating with Pop Hari Ini via Kolom Kampus, The Sounds Project let students try being music journalists. They attracted around 50 student writings during the submission period. Three selected writers had the opportunity to cover The Sounds Project Vol. 9 for three days, including being involved in interview sessions with international musicians performing at the festival
The event also partnered with Matters Project on waste management. The waste collected from the three-day event was sent to RDF Plant Rorotan to be processed into fuel in the waste-to-energy process.
