Jakarta. The Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), together with the Indonesia Clearing and Guarantee Corporation (KPEI) and the Indonesian Central Securities Depository (KSEI), continues to strengthen the development of Indonesia’s Islamic capital market through expanded public education and outreach campaigns.

Based on data compiled from AB-SOTS, the number of sharia stock investors has recorded remarkable growth. Over the past five years since 2020, the number of Islamic stock investors surged by 158%, rising from 85,891 investors to 221,714 investors as of March 2026.

This year marks the 15th anniversary of Indonesia’s Islamic capital market revival, commemorating the launch of the Indonesian Sharia Stock Index (ISSI), the issuance of DSN-MUI Fatwa No. 80, and the implementation of the Sharia Online Trading System (SOTS) — milestones that have played a key role in the growth of the country’s sharia capital market ecosystem.

To celebrate the occasion, IDX, KPEI, and KSEI, with the support of the Financial Services Authority (OJK), are organizing Elevate 2026, which consists of the IFN Indonesia Forum and Sharia Investment Week (SIW) 2026, taking place on May 20–23, 2026 at the IDX Main Hall. Carrying the theme “15 Years Rising – Heading Worldwide,” Elevate 2026 is being presented on an international scale as part of efforts to introduce Indonesia’s Islamic capital market to a broader global audience.

As part of the event series, IDX has partnered with Redmoney Group to strengthen the international branding of Indonesia’s Islamic capital market. The collaboration will be realized through the IFN Indonesia Forum 2026 on May 20, 2026, serving as the opening event leading into Sharia Investment Week (SIW) 2026.

SIW itself is IDX’s flagship Islamic capital market event, held since 2019. It has become a major gathering for Indonesia’s sharia investors through various talk shows and expos aimed at improving literacy and inclusion in the Islamic capital market sector.

Irwan Abdalloh, Head of IDX’s Islamic Capital Market Division, said that Islamic capital market products are becoming increasingly relevant as an investment choice for Indonesians. According to him, sharia investment not only offers financial opportunities but also provides peace of mind as it is conducted in accordance with Islamic principles.

“The Islamic capital market is no longer merely an alternative — it has become a primary choice for people seeking halal, transparent, and sustainable investments,” Irwan said.

He added that all activities in the Islamic capital market are based on principles that prohibit riba (usury), gharar (uncertainty), and maysir (speculation). In addition, all investment instruments traded must originate from halal business activities and be managed through sharia-compliant mechanisms.

In Indonesia, these principles are implemented in accordance with OJK regulations and fatwas issued by the National Sharia Council of the Indonesian Ulema Council (DSN-MUI), ensuring that all processes — from security screening to transactions — remain within sharia guidelines.

Irwan also explained that Sharia stock transactions on IDX are conducted transparently through a fair trading system. Only stocks listed in the Sharia Securities List (DES), issued periodically by OJK, are eligible for trading.

“Investors can feel confident because all processes are closely supervised by regulators and aligned with prevailing sharia fatwas,” he said.

Indonesia’s Islamic capital market has continued to demonstrate positive and increasingly inclusive growth. Rising investor numbers, expanding market capitalization, and increasing trading activity all reflect the growing public interest in sharia-based investments.

“Public trust continues to grow. This is evident from the significant increase in sharia investors over the past several years,” Irwan said.

From a product perspective, Indonesia’s Islamic capital market offers a diverse range of investment instruments, including sharia stocks, sharia mutual funds, sukuk, and sharia exchange-traded funds (ETFs). As of March 2026, the number of sharia securities had reached 673 stocks, accounting for 70 percent of all listed shares on IDX — a reflection of the industry’s strong development.

Irwan further noted that the Islamic capital market is not solely focused on financial returns but also carries a social dimension. Innovations such as stock waqf, zakat on shares, and waqf-based sukuk demonstrate how investments can create broader social impact.

“The Islamic capital market combines investment and social values. This is its key strength in driving a more inclusive and sustainable economy,” he said.

Indonesia’s commitment to building an inclusive and sustainable Islamic capital market ecosystem has also gained international recognition. The country’s growing global presence is reflected in a series of international awards received over recent years.

IDX has repeatedly earned prestigious accolades at the Global Islamic Finance Awards (GIFA), including The Best Supporting Institution for Islamic Finance (2016–2018), The Best Emerging Islamic Capital Market of the Year (2018), and The Best Islamic Capital Market (2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022).

Most recently, Indonesia received the GIFA Championship Award for Islamic Capital Market 2025, further reinforcing international recognition of the country’s consistency and innovation in developing the Islamic capital market industry.

The award highlights Indonesia’s ability to sustain growth amid global economic challenges while strengthening optimism that the country has strong potential to become one of the world’s leading Islamic capital market hubs.

Going forward, IDX plans to continue expanding educational outreach and collaboration with various stakeholders to increase public participation. With greater public understanding of Islamic capital market products, the industry is expected to become an increasingly important pillar of Indonesia’s national economic development.

“Education is the foundation. When people understand, trust will grow, and ultimately the Islamic capital market will develop even faster,” Irwan concluded.
