Jakarta. The presence of clearing institutions in Indonesia’s commodity futures and derivatives trading ecosystem plays a crucial role in protecting the public, particularly investors and customers, according to Dr. Yoyok Prasetyo, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Islam Nusantara Bandung.

As institutions responsible for transaction guarantees and settlements, clearing houses are tasked with ensuring that transactions within the commodity futures and derivatives trading ecosystem comply with existing regulations.

Yoyok said public protection, particularly for customers and investors, is one of the key pillars in the investment sector.

“With the public being protected, trust will grow, which will ultimately support the growth of Indonesia’s investment sector. This also presents a challenge for clearing institutions to continuously maintain their integrity and transparency, not only for public protection but also on a broader scale to support investment growth in Indonesia,” he added.

Meanwhile, Indonesia Clearing House (ICH) Director Yugieandy Tirta Saputra said one of the institution’s primary functions in commodity futures and derivatives trading is maintaining market transparency and integrity.

“We carry this out by ensuring that all transactions are properly recorded and that there is no price manipulation or actions that could harm other parties. This function is essential to maintaining public trust in the market,” Yugieandy said.

He added that ICH currently serves as the clearing institution for transactions conducted on the Indonesia Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (ICDX), also known as Bursa Komoditi dan Derivatif Indonesia (BKDI).

As part of its operations, ICH has introduced the Clearing Info of Trade (e-CITRA) platform, which allows the public to track transactions being processed by ICH.

“Through this platform, the public can access transaction data for up to 90 days. The platform also makes it easier for customers to validate the accuracy of the transactions reported to them,” Yugieandy said.

“As a clearing institution, ICH has fulfilled all global-standard clearing institution requirements, enabling its supervisory functions to operate effectively while maximizing customer protection. This is also reflected in ICH’s ISO 27001 certification for Information Security Management Systems,” he added.

ICH currently operates under the supervision of three regulators: the Commodity Futures Trading Regulatory Agency (Bappebti), Bank Indonesia, and the Financial Services Authority (OJK). Bappebti regulates physical commodity and commodity-based derivatives trading, Bank Indonesia supervises money market and foreign exchange derivatives trading, while OJK is responsible for securities-based derivatives trading.
