Jakarta. Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) began 2026 with strong momentum in micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) financing, disbursing Rp 1.65 trillion ($96.9 million) in Sharia-compliant business loans during the first two months of the year.

The financing, equivalent to 11.1% of the bank’s annual allocation, has reached more than 11,000 businesses across Indonesia.

The move underscores BSI’s commitment to strengthening MSMEs as a backbone of the national economy while supporting household purchasing power. Financing has been directed toward productive sectors, particularly halal food and beverages, services, and trade.

Of the total MSME financing disbursed, 65% was allocated to production sectors and 35% to non-production sectors, in line with government directives. The composition reflects BSI’s strategy to promote value-added and sustainable economic activity.

BSI Retail Banking Director Kemas Erwan Husainy said the bank continues to prioritize prudent risk management in expanding its financing portfolio.

“Financing is disbursed selectively, taking into account macroeconomic conditions and financing quality trends to ensure a healthy and sustainable portfolio,” Kemas said.

He added that BSI remains optimistic about MSME growth in 2026, supported by government stimulus programs and policy support.

“We see the MSME ecosystem strengthening, driven by initiatives such as Sharia MSME financing programs and ecosystem development linked to the free nutritious meal program through micro and small enterprises. In addition, positive trends in the halal sector early this year signal strong growth ahead,” he said.

The solid performance in the MSME segment has contributed to BSI’s overall growth. As of February 2026, total financing stood at Rp 323 trillion ($19 billion), up 14.32% year-on-year, with significant contributions from the consumer segment, particularly gold-related financing.

Retail financing, including MSMEs, reached Rp 52.43 trillion, marking a 6.10% year-on-year increase.

BSI continues to strengthen its MSME ecosystem through various strategic initiatives, including business mentoring, training, business matching, and services provided through BSI MSME Centers, as well as assistance with halal certification for partner enterprises.

These efforts aim to help MSMEs scale up and enhance their competitiveness in both domestic and global markets.

Looking ahead, BSI plans to further support the government’s Asta Cita program, particularly in driving national economic growth through retail financing. Optimizing its intermediary role between deposits and financing will remain key to sustaining strong and stable performance.
