BGN Continues to Distribute Meals for Sumatra Flood Victims
Aceh. The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) continues to roll out nutritious meals to evacuees in the flood-hit West Sumatra, North Sumatra, and Aceh.
Between Dec. 10-11, the services saw various patterns. In West Sumatra, BGN has set up more public kitchens, locally known as SPPG units. The number of such kitchens has risen from 169 to 179. However, the meal distribution dropped by 25 percent from 1,352 to 1,011 portions. BGN attributed the decline to the reduced supplies in Tanah Datar Regency (from 969 to 831 portions) and Agam Regency (from 383 to 180 portions).
Emergency operations in North Sumatra recorded a surge in aid, although some daily data remains limited. Aid distribution rose 25 percent, from 14,253 to 17,873 portions, primarily due to the commencement of distribution in Central Tapanuli Regency, which immediately reached 5,644 portions. The Langkat Regency's portions dropped from 6,422 to 4,398.
The meal rollout remained stable in Aceh. The province's kitchens rose by 0.6 percent from 169 to 170 kitchens. The meals distributed totaled around 1,255,264 portions, down by 0.1 percent. Pidie Jaya Regency recorded a significant increase in distribution, from 79,976 to 99,451 portions.
"Although some minor fluctuations occur from day to day, Aceh continues to maintain consistency in its service processes. Our primary focus is ensuring that every active point can operate without interruption, especially in the most severely impacted areas, such as Aceh Tamiang, Bener Meriah, Central Aceh, Southeast Aceh, and Gayo Lues," Mustafa Kamal, the head of Aceh Province SPPG Office.
Main road access remains disrupted, thus hampering the entry of ingredients.
"We hope that the multi-stakeholder collaboration can help us make sure that we can roll out the meals," Mustafa said.
BGN's spokesperson Khairul Hidayati said that data accuracy remained key in emergency response operations.
"Every change in distribution points or aid volume is the basis for our evaluation to ensure that field decisions remain on target. BGN ensures that all regional teams receive the support they need. ... We will continue to monitor any shifts as we are committed that this aid reaches the most vulnerable groups in a timely manner," Hida said.
