Jakarta. National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Head Sudaryono has warned that officials and other personnel proven to have violated standard operating procedures (SOPs) in implementing President Prabowo Subianto’s flagship Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program could be dismissed.

Newly appointed Sudaryono made the statement Sunday at the Jakarta Convention Center in Senayan. He said the agency was reviewing allegations of violations circulating on social media as part of efforts to strengthen governance and ensure compliance with program standards.

“We are revamping everything. We are improving governance and the implementation of SOPs. The SOPs are already in place; they simply need to be executed consistently and with discipline, including those for the supply chain, procurement processes and so on,” Sudaryono said, as reported by Antara.

One of the allegations being investigated involves an MBG kitchen, also known as SPPG, in Sukoharjo, Central Java, which was accused of inflating the purchase price of eggs.

A screenshot of a conversation that circulated on social media showed an individual allegedly representing the SPPG discussing egg prices with a supplier and proposing a cashback scheme. Under the arrangement, a foundation would pay a higher price for eggs, with the difference subsequently transferred back by the supplier to a company linked to the SPPG.

For example, if the supplier charged Rp21,000 ($1.30) per kilogram, the foundation would pay Rp25,000, with the Rp4,000 difference allegedly returned by the supplier.

Sudaryono said the BGN had also identified other violations at several SPPGs, including personnel failing to be present in kitchens and not following established SOPs. Such violations could potentially create health risks and, in some cases, lead to food poisoning, he said.

He added that one SPPG member had allegedly been involved in fraud and online gambling.

“All violations will be assessed based on their severity. If an individual violates the law and this is proven through an investigation, we will not hesitate to dismiss them and terminate their status as government employees,” Sudaryono said.

President Prabowo Subianto appointed Sudaryono, then deputy agriculture minister, to lead BGN on to recover from a high-profile corruption scandal. Ever since, Sudaryono has shut down 833 MBG kitchens that failed to meet SOP. The agency tightened the regulation regarding meal consumption windows, where they must now be consumed within a maximum of four hours after cooking. Kitchens that do not have sanitation and hygiene certificate could not operate, and operating kitchens must now be under CCTV surveillance.

The MBG program is a massive undertaking aimed at providing free meals to more than 80 million beneficiaries, mostly students and expectant mothers, with a 2026 budget of Rp 268 trillion. But since its launch in January 2025, the program has been plagued by corruption scandals and food poisoning cases.
