Jakarta. Chief Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartarto recently met with Former Russian Prime Minister and Ex-President Dmitry Medvedev in Moscow.

Medvedev currently serves as the deputy chairman to the Russian Security Council. According to Medvedev, Russia sees Indonesia as an important partner.

“Indonesia is Russia's main partner. It is also our largest [partner] in the Asia Pacific region,” Medvedev told Airlangga, as quoted by a ministerial press statement.

“Let us discuss cooperation in dealing with global issues to ensure the security of this planet. This is such a great opportunity to build multifaceted relations,” Medvedev said.

Likewise, Airlangga said that Russia was one of Indonesia’s key economic partners. He added: “We would like to continue to grow this bilateral cooperation, while also achieving a greater mutual understanding in our relations.”

Indonesia and Russia are celebrating their 74th year of bilateral ties. This should provide momentum to boost bilateral trade and investment. It is also a chance to bolster industrial cooperation.

"Indonesia welcomes this meeting as part of efforts to improve relations.  We believe Indonesia and Russia will have an even stronger relationship in the future,” Airlangga said.

The senior minister also gave his views on global strategic matters during the meeting.
