Jakarta. The 2026 BTN Jakarta International Marathon is expecting 40,000 runners this year.

The Jakarta provincial government has teamed up with Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN) to once again hold the annual running event.

The event, also known as the 2026 BTN Jakim, has registered over 40,000 participants. Almost 1,000 of these are international runners from 46 countries, many of whom come from Malaysia, Singapore, and South Korea. This year's event has also earned the Elite Label from World Athletics, an international recognition that places Jakarta on par with other major marathon cities worldwide.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung emphasized that this increase in scale and quality is not just about competition, but also about building Jakarta's image as a leading sports tourism destination.

"Through BTN Jakim, Jakarta is not only hosting a running competition, but also providing a running experience that introduces city icons and local culture to the world. This is the concrete result of cross-sector collaboration to provide a quality event that can be enjoyed by all levels of society," Promo said at the city hall on Tuesday.

BTN President Director Nixon LP Napitupulu said that the company's consistent support for the event was part of a long-term investment to improve the community's quality of life. The bank remains committed to transforming into a lifestyle transaction ecosystem provider through the mobile banking app: bale by BTN. This service enables participants to easily make transactions, starting from the registration stage to their daily banking needs after the event concludes.

"We want bale by BTN to be our customers' primary partner in simplifying various banking transaction needs at every stage of their lifestyle," Nixon said.

This year's event also brings significant updates, with the event extending to two days.

Participants can choose from four available race categories: BTN Marathon, Le Minerale Half Marathon, EJ Sport 10K, and BSN 5K, which is the event's latest addition to attract beginner runners.

BTN Jakim promises to uphold runner comfort and safety as its top priorities. It embraces the so-called 4S concept: "sterile, secure, safety, and smooth".

On the first day, the route will focus on the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area. The second day will have the runners experience the iconic route from the National Monument (Monas) to GBK. Along the route, the Jakarta Tourism and Culture Office will provide various culturally themed cheering points to encourage the participants.
