Jakarta. A customs official who was recently removed from the leadership post in Yogyakarta for flaunting his lavish lifestyle came to the Corruption Eradication Commission, or KPK, in Jakarta on Tuesday to file the latest data on his wealth.

Eko Darmanto, the former head of the Yogyakarta Customs and Excise Office, was earlier summoned by the KPK to renew his wealth report after his Instagram posts showing him posing with Harley Davidson motorcycles and a small plane invited public outrage.

He was asked to bring documents to prove that his wealth has been legally obtained. The documents should include proofs of “his inheritance, grants, and business activities”, said Ipi Maryati, a spokesman for the KPK.

It’s unclear if Eko provided the KPK with all the needed documents. The examination may take days before the commission can announce the results.

According to his KPK filing in 2021, Eko has assets worth Rp 15.7 billion ($1 million) but he also has Rp 9 billion in debt, bringing his net wealth to Rp 6.7 billion.

Pahala Nainggolan, a KPK deputy in charge of corruption prevention, said earlier that Eko had a collection of vintage cars such as a 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air, a 1957 Dodge Fargo, a 1957 Chevrolet Apache, and a 1972 Ford Bronco. Each of the rare cars was valued at just Rp 200 million ($13,000) or lower in his filing.

Eko was removed from his post in Yogyakarta by Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati on March 2 following media reports of his lavish lifestyle.

The news came amid a scandal involving tax official Rafael Alun Trisambodo, whose son Mario Dandy Satrio became a criminal suspect for assaulting a teenager who is now in a coma at a Jakarta hospital.

Rafael came under the spotlight regarding his wealth after a public inquiry into his troubled son who flaunted expensive cars and motorcycles on social media posts. Rafael has submitted his resignation to the Finance Ministry.

It was later found that a number of tax directorate officials have a big bike club named Belasting Rjder DJP which the minister ordered an immediate disbandment due to public uproar.
