Transportation Ministry Investigates Alleged Harassment of South Korean YouTuber
Jakarta. The Transportation Ministry has confirmed the authenticity of a viral video allegedly showing an official at an airport in Kolaka, Southeast Sulawesi, harassing a female tourist from South Korea.
"It is true that the man in the video is Asri Damuna, the Head of the Sangia Nibandera Airport Office," said Ministry spokesperson Adita Irawati on Friday.
Adita added that Asri is currently under internal investigation. If found guilty, the Ministry is prepared to take disciplinary action.
"At the moment, an investigation is being conducted by authorized officials at the Ministry. If there is any violation, either in terms of regulations or ethical standards as a civil servant, sanctions will be imposed according to applicable provisions," she stated.
Previously, a video went viral showing a man harassing South Korean YouTuber Jiah at a restaurant in Manado, North Sulawesi. In the circulating YouTube video, posted on May 5, two men invited Jiah, who was vlogging, to join them at their table for a meal. Jiah accepted their invitation as she was heading to Bunaken.
During their conversation, Asri could be clearly heard inviting Jiah to his hotel, which she promptly declined. Afterward, they continued to dine and chat together.
Jiah did not report the man for alleged harassment. In fact, she titled her video "Befriending with Uncles." However, netizens deemed Asri's behavior inappropriate and urged the Ministry to take action against him.
