Jakarta. Three comedians, Narji, Bedu, and Denny, formerly part of the comedy group "Cagur," have taken divergent paths in politics, aligning with different parties as they enter the fray as legislative candidates.

The moniker "Cagur" stems from "Calon Guru," translating to "Prospective Teachers" in English.

Sunarji, popularly known as Narji, is vying as a candidate for the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) in Central Java. Harabdu Tohar, or Bedu, representing the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra), seeks candidacy in Jakarta. Meanwhile, Denny Wahyudi, or Denny, stands as a candidate for the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) in West Java.

Despite their political differences, the trio maintains an unbroken friendship, engaging in ongoing discussions about politics and their respective electoral regions.

"We frequently deliberate on the conditions within our electoral areas and our future plans," Denny said during a talk show at BTV studio in Jakarta on Sunday.

Bedu noted that despite their affiliations with different political parties, they share a common vision for advancing Indonesia.

"While we once shared the spotlight in entertainment, we now grace a different stage -- the political one. However, our essence remains unchanged; we continue to entertain as politicians, focusing this time on policies that uplift the well-being of the Indonesian populace," Bedu said.

Narji highlighted that their foray into politics resonates with the aspirations of their university cohorts from IKIP Jakarta, established in 1999 and now known as Jakarta State University (UNJ).

"It's fulfilling their desires. Let us, Cagur, embody our role as aspiring educators who impart knowledge everywhere. Teaching isn't confined to the classroom; it can manifest through entertainment or politics," Narji concluded.

Their distinct party affiliations indicate varied preferences for presidential candidates. Narji champions Anies Baswedan, Bedu aligns with Prabowo Subianto, and Denny extends support to Ganjar Pranowo.
