Jakarta. Former West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil got an endorsement from the Golkar Party to contest the gubernatorial election in Jakarta in November.

“Not just Golkar, the Gerindra [Great Indonesia Movement Party also showed interest in nominating Ridwan for governor,” Golkar Chairman Airlangga Hartarto said in Jakarta, “Golkar and Gerindra have recommended Ridwan Kamil to run for governor in Jakarta or seek reelection in West Java,"

Several other Golkar executives such as Erwin Aksa and Ahmad Zaki Iskandar are also considered as potential candidates for the Jakarta election depending on response from future coalition partners, he added.

Golkar may team up with the same political parties that formed a coalition for Prabowo Subianto in his successful run in the Feb. 14 presidential election, Airlangga said.
