Jakarta. Indonesian prosecutors have arrested the chief executive of Toshida Indonesia as part of a widening corruption investigation into nickel mining governance in Southeast Sulawesi spanning the 2013–2025 period.

The Attorney General’s Office said Laode Sinarwan Oda was detained on allegations that he bribed Indonesian Ombudsman chairman Hery Susanto, who had already been arrested in connection with the case.

“[Laode] was legally summoned but failed to appear, prompting investigators to conduct a forced pickup,” Attorney General’s Office spokesperson Anang Supriatna said in Jakarta on Tuesday.

According to prosecutors, Laode was arrested at a residence in South Jakarta on Monday night. He was subsequently questioned, named a suspect, and formally detained early Tuesday.

“He is one of the bribery givers to HS,” Anang said, referring to Hery Susanto by his initials.

Investigators said the case stemmed from a dispute involving Toshida over the calculation of fees owed to the Forestry Ministry for mining land concessions granted to the company. Prosecutors allege the company sought to challenge or revise the policy through the Ombudsman by involving Hery.

During the process, the Ombudsman allegedly issued recommendations allowing Toshida to independently calculate its payment obligations, a move investigators suspect was influenced improperly.

Hery was arrested on April 16 on allegations of receiving at least Rp 1.5 billion ($85,700) in bribes from Laode, prosecutors said.
