Bangkok. Indonesian shooter Dewi Laila Mubarokah delivered a remarkable performance at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, winning two gold medals at the Photharam Shooting Range in Bangkok while four months pregnant.

Dewi capped her SEA Games campaign with a flawless showing on Saturday, helping Indonesia secure team gold in the women’s 10-meter air rifle alongside Dominique Rachmawati Karini and Yasmin Figlia Achadiat. She then went on to claim a second gold in the individual women’s event in the same discipline.

“I truly did not expect this. My target was only silver or bronze,” Dewi said after the competition.

Behind her calm demeanor and precision on the range, Dewi carried a significant personal challenge that she kept largely private until the competition ended. Only a small circle was aware of her pregnancy as she continued to follow full training camps and competition schedules.

The most difficult period, she said, came early in the pregnancy, when she had to manage nausea without raising suspicion among teammates. Additional concerns arose over nutritional supplements, as every intake needed to be safe for pregnancy while also complying with anti-doping regulations.

To address the issue, Dewi consulted the Indonesian Anti-Doping Organization. Through the Therapeutic Use Exemption mechanism regulated by the World Anti-Doping Agency, she was able to take necessary vitamins while competing with peace of mind.

In the individual final, eight shooters battled for the podium. Dewi initially trailed the field before steadily regaining ground and eliminating her rivals, setting up an all-Indonesian duel against Dominique. Dewi emerged victorious, with her teammate taking silver.

Watching from the stands was her husband, fellow shooter Fathur Gustafian, who witnessed the moment with mixed emotions. For him, the achievement represented not only a gold-medal finish but also a shared journey marked by discipline and sacrifice.

The two gold medals reaffirm Dewi Laila’s consistency at the Southeast Asian level. She previously won gold in the women’s 10-meter air rifle at the 2021 SEA Games in Vietnam, while shooting was not contested at the 2023 edition.
