Prabowo Subianto Meets with 35 Ministerial Candidates Ahead of Upcoming Cabinet Announcement
Jakarta. A total of 35 ministerial candidates have been summoned to meet with President-elect Prabowo Subianto at his residence on Jalan Kertanegara in South Jakarta on Monday. This meeting is part of the preparations for Prabowo's cabinet for the 2024-2029 administration.
The meetings with the ministerial candidates took place from midday until the evening. The duration of the private discussions between Prabowo and each candidate varied, with some meetings lasting as little as three to five minutes, while others extended beyond that.
Notable attendees included Zulkifli Hasan, chair of the National Mandate Party (PAN); Bahlil Lahadalia, chairman of Golkar; Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, chair of the Democrats; and Yusril Ihza Mahendra, founder of the Crescent Star Party.
Also present was Muhaimin Iskandar, chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB) and former running mate of presidential candidate Anies Baswedan, who competed against Prabowo in the 2014 election.
Prabowo is expected to announce his cabinet shortly after his inauguration as Indonesia’s 8th president on Oct. 20.
Reports suggest that the cabinet will comprise 46 ministries, including 41 sectoral ministries and five coordinating ministries. New ministries being proposed include the Forestry Ministry, Public Housing Ministry, Transmigration Ministry, Creative Economy Ministry, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Ministry, and Population and Family Development Ministry.
Other proposed ministries include the Migrant Worker Protection Ministry, Higher Education Ministry, Culture Ministry, Human Rights Ministry, and Immigration Ministry. A new coordinating ministry focused on social affairs is also anticipated.
The candidates summoned come from both supporting political parties and professional backgrounds. Here are the 35 ministerial candidates who have met with Prabowo as of Monday:
