Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto on Monday hosted Secretary General of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) Luc Triangle and ITUC Asia Pacific Secretary General Shoya Yoshida at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta for a 90-minute closed-door meeting focused on worker welfare, job absorption, and layoffs.

Confederation of All Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPSI) president Andi Gani Nena Wea, who accompanied the guests, said the discussion centered on labor market challenges, new workforce entrants, and the handling of recent layoffs. The meeting also touched on the National Police’s labor affairs desk, which the foreign labor leaders reportedly viewed positively.

“We spoke with the President for almost 1.5 hours about worker welfare, layoff management, and the placement of workers affected by layoffs as well as new job seekers. We also discussed the labor desk within the National Police. They appreciated what the National Police Chief has done,” Andi told reporters.

According to Andi, the ITUC leadership expressed broad support for the direction of Prabowo’s policies on labor issues.

“The tone was more about appreciation that the Indonesian government has performed very well. They support President Prabowo’s labor policies and also the National Police Chief’s role on labor issues,” he said.

Andi added that Prabowo plans to announce the country’s new Workers’ Welfare Council later this week — although he declined to disclose further details regarding the council’s composition.

“The Workers’ Welfare Council was also discussed with the President. It will be announced soon,” he said.

Manpower Minister Yassierli, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya also attended the meeting.
