Kalla Group Pledges $3.9B for Energy After Prabowo Talks
Jakarta. Former Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla said the Kalla Group is prepared to invest up to Rp 70 trillion ($3.9 billion) to support Indonesia’s energy development and help the country achieve energy self-sufficiency.
Kalla made the statement after meeting President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday. He was accompanied by his son, Solihin Kalla, who serves as president director of Kalla Group.
The meeting, which lasted around 30 minutes, focused on efforts to expand Indonesia’s energy capacity as the government pushes its energy self-sufficiency agenda.
“We discussed with the president ways to improve Indonesia’s energy capacity and achieve energy self-sufficiency,” Kalla said after the meeting.
Kalla said his family-owned conglomerate already operates hydroelectric power plants with a combined capacity of around 1,500 megawatts and is ready to add another 2,000 megawatts through new projects, including gas-fired power plants.
According to Kalla, Indonesia’s energy demand will continue to rise as the government targets 8% economic growth in the coming years. He said Kalla Group is prepared to make major investments, particularly in renewable and green energy projects.
“Development must also have a business aspect because it requires large investments. We are talking about investments of around Rp 60 trillion to Rp 70 trillion, and we are capable of carrying this out,” he said.
Kalla added that project preparations, including designs and locations, have already been completed and discussions with the government are now focused on technical details.
He said President Prabowo fully supports the projects and wants them implemented quickly.
“The designs are ready, the locations are ready, and now we are discussing the technical aspects. The president agrees that we should move forward immediately,” Kalla said.
