Prabowo Heads to Paris After Davos, Following Invitation From Macron
Zurich. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto departed Switzerland for Paris on Friday to attend a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, following an official invitation from the French leader.
Prabowo left Zurich International Airport at around 1:52 p.m. local time aboard the presidential aircraft. He was accompanied by his son, Didit Prasetyo, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
Several senior officials were present to see him off, including Foreign Minister Sugiono; Indonesia’s ambassador to Switzerland, I Gede Ngurah Swajaya; Indonesia’s permanent representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Sidharto R. Suryodipuro; and Indonesia’s defense attaché to France and Switzerland, Col. Aji Nugroho.
“He is fulfilling an invitation from President Macron,” Sugiono told reporters in Switzerland on Friday.
Prabowo’s Paris visit comes a day after he addressed the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting in Davos, marking the first appearance by an Indonesian leader at the forum since 2011, when then-president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono spoke on global economic challenges.
In his speech, Prabowo highlighted Indonesia’s domestic achievements before outlining the country’s approach to global trade. He said Indonesia “does not fear economic integration,” describing the country as a long-standing trading nation. He cited trade agreements signed or substantially concluded in 2025 with partners including the European Union, Peru, Canada, and the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union, all of which still require legislative approval.
Prabowo also said Indonesia expects to finalize a comprehensive economic partnership agreement with the United Kingdom next year, following his recent visit to London. Such deals typically include significant tariff reductions aimed at boosting exports.
On the sidelines of Davos, Prabowo also signed a document related to a Gaza peace initiative, marking Indonesia’s formal participation in an international body focused on post-conflict reconstruction.
The Davos forum featured remarks by several world leaders, including Macron, as global trade tensions — particularly related to U.S. tariffs — dominated discussions.
