Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto is caught in a hot mic moment, asking his American counterpart Donald Trump to meet his son Eric Trump for a possible business deal.

Prabowo, alongside dozens of world leaders, had flown to Egypt for a Trump-led summit on Gaza. In a video uploaded by news agency Reuters, Prabowo was seen whispering to Trump behind the podium on the margins of the summit. The audio caught Prabowo talking of an unnamed region that he considered as being unsafe “security-wise”. He then requested a meeting with Eric, who currently serves as an executive vice president at the Trump Organization, an American conglomerate with a global network of hotels and golf courses. Eric does not have any role within Trump’s administration.

“Can I meet Eric?” Prabowo said on Monday local time, seemingly unaware that the mic was still on.

Trump promised Prabowo that he would ask his son to make a phone call.

“Should I do that? He’s such a good boy. I’ll have Eric call,” Trump said.

Prabowo then said that he would speak with Hary, although it is still unclear which “Hary” the Indonesian leader was referring to. He added that they would “look for a better place” to continue the discussions. The clip alluded that Prabowo would be okay with meeting Donald John Trump Jr., nicknamed Don Jr. He is the president’s eldest child and has the same role as Eric at the Trump Organization. 

The Jakarta Globe has reached out to the Foreign Affairs Ministry over the hot mic incident. 

In February 2025, the Environment Ministry suspended all construction activities at West Java’s Lido Special Economic Zone due to environmental violations. This 3,000-hectare project is a collaboration between Indonesian billionaire Hary Tanoesoedibjo and the Trump Organization. 

The summit saw the signing of a Trump-brokered declaration on ending the two-year war in Gaza. Trump spoke highly of the attending world leaders, witnessing what he called something that “everybody said was impossible”.

“Also with us is President Prabowo, a very incredible man of Indonesia,” Trump said.

He added: “[Indonesia] does unbelievably well and it's great to have you."
