Jakarta. Peruvian President Dina Boluarte had given her word to catch the assailant responsible for killing an Indonesian embassy admin staff, according to a deputy minister.  

The death of Zetro Leonardo Purba, a chancery officer at the Indonesian Embassy in Lima, had been making headlines. Zetro was cycling near his apartment in Peru when he got shot three times by an unknown assailant. CCTV footage circulating online showed that the assailant immediately fled the scene with his accomplice on a motorbike. A police investigation is currently underway.

“Peruvian President is aware of this incident and has given her personal attention. She has also committed to a proper investigation and for the perpetrator to be chased as soon as possible,” Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha C Nasir told reporters in Jakarta.

The Indonesian Embassy in Lima has been in contact with local authorities. Jakarta has also urged Lima to punish the killer as severely as possible. Arrmanatha said: “We are currently discussing with [Zetro’s family] on the next process.” 

Zetro is expected to undergo an autopsy on Wednesday. Indonesia will be able to repatriate the body after the autopsy is completed and the local police’s approval.

Zetro’s wife was at the crime scene when the attack happened. She was unharmed. Zetro was a father of three. Foreign Minister Sugiono said that the Indonesian government would pay for the tuition fees of Zetro’s children until they graduate.
