No Survivors in West Kalimantan Helicopter Crash
Sekadau, West Kalimantan. Indonesian search and rescue authorities on Friday confirmed that all eight people aboard an Airbus H130 helicopter that crashed in the remote interior of Sekadau regency, West Kalimantan, have died.
The aircraft went down on Thursday morning carrying six passengers, a pilot, and a co-pilot.
“All victims have been confirmed dead,” Sugiyanto, an official with Sekadau Police, said.
Rescue teams had reached the hilly crash site on Thursday night, but evacuation efforts were delayed due to steep terrain and limited visibility.
The helicopter, registered PK-CFX and operated by Matthew Air, was carrying pilot Marindra W, co-pilot Harun Arasyd, and six passengers whose identities have not yet been released.
According to authorities, the aircraft departed from Melawi regency at 7:34 a.m. local time and was reported missing after losing contact at 8:39 a.m.
The cause of the crash has not yet been announced.
