Nepal Flood: No Report of Indonesian Victim
Jakarta. The government revealed on Thursday that the recent deadly flooding in Nepal had not claimed any Indonesian victims so far.
Massive flash floods and landslides smashed parts of Nepal near its border with China’s Tibet on Wednesday. The death toll of the catastrophic flooding has reached at least 95 people, with hundreds of tourists missing. The Foreign Ministry’s citizen protection director Heni Hamidah told the Jakarta Globe that the Indonesians there were safe.
“There are no reports of Indonesian citizens being affected [by the flood] to date based on monitoring and communication with the relevant parties,” Heni said.
As many as 45 Indonesians are currently living in Nepal. Many of them reside in the capital, Kathmandu. They mainly work in the hospitality sector. Heni went on to say that the Indonesian embassy in Dhaka, which also handles Nepal-related matters, is “paying close attention” to the people going on hiking tours.
“Our embassy has urged travel agencies to immediately update us on the Indonesian travelers’ whereabouts and condition, especially those who are currently traveling or trekking,” Heni said.
The embassy’s hotline for Indonesians in Nepal is available at +880 161-4444-552.
Indonesians in China may contact the Beijing embassy via +8618610455488 (WeChat/Phone Call/SMS).
