Dumai, Riau. Malaysia has deported 90 Indonesian migrant workers through Dumai Port in Riau Province over the weekend, citing violations of work and residency permits, officials said.

According to Fanny Wahyu Kurniawan, head of the Riau Office of the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP3MI), the deportees included 60 men and 30 women, along with two children.

The largest group came from East Java (36 people), followed by North Sumatra (19), Aceh (7), West Java (6), and several others from various provinces.

“The 90 migrant workers arrived at Dumai Port accompanied by three staff members from the Indonesian Consulate General in Johor Bahru,” Fanny said.

Most of them had completed detention sentences at Machap Umboo Immigration Depot in Melaka and Kemayan Camp in Pahang, Malaysia, before being repatriated.

The returnees, including a heavily pregnant woman, are being temporarily housed at the Dumai Shelter while awaiting transportation to their respective hometowns.

Fanny urged prospective overseas job seekers to comply with labor and immigration laws in both Indonesia and destination countries to prevent recurring deportation cases.
