Luhut Gets Extra Job as Prabowo’s Advisor on Govt Tech
Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto officially gave Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan another job advising him on digitalization and government technology.
This will be Luhut’s second job under the Prabowo government after he was appointed to head the national economic council. Luhut’s double job came as no surprise as he had previously assumed many roles during his time as the chief investment minister under the previous administration of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
Under Jokowi, Luhut also had to deal with managing the Covid-19 pandemic response. He even got picked to lead a task force aimed at improving governance in Indonesia's palm oil sector.
Luhut took his oath as Prabowo’s special advisor on digitalization and government technology at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, a day after he officially assumed his role as the national economic council chief.
Luhut has yet to give more details of his new job as the government technology advisor.
But as Jokowi’s investment czar, Luhut had been pushing for the government to embrace digital transformation to boost transparency. The government is working on an e-catalog system for government procurement.
On many occasions as Jokowi’s minister, Luhut talked of the government’s digital system -- dubbed as Simbara -- that could help them track the entire mineral management processes. This helps the government keep an eye on whether the businesses have paid their taxes, thus giving a boost to state revenue.
