Jakarta. Indonesia’s Child Protection Commission (KPAI) said Monday it has yet to find any evidence or verified reports supporting allegations of bullying linked to last week’s explosion at senior high school SMAN 72 in North Jakarta.

KPAI chair Margaret Aliyatul Maimunah said the institution has not received any formal report indicating the student suspected of setting off the blast had been bullied. She visited several injured students at Jakarta Islamic Hospital Cempaka Putih earlier in the day.

“There is none. There has been no report to KPAI,” Margaret told reporters, adding that speculation circulating online appears to be unsupported by facts. She said KPAI has coordinated with investigators and that the police also have not found evidence of bullying.

Margaret stressed the commission remains proactive in oversight despite the absence of a complaint. The immediate priority, she said, is ensuring physical and psychological recovery for all students affected by the blast.

“If later we find indications of bullying, the handling will follow procedures that focus on protection and education,” she said.

KPAI commissioner Dian Sasmita underscored that bullying must be addressed seriously, including through prevention. She said adults --parents, caregivers, teachers and policymakers-- must understand what constitutes bullying and its long-term consequences.

Dian warned that parts of the public still downplay bullying as harmless joking. She said such attitudes hinder real support for both victims and perpetrators, who each require structured psychological assistance.

Jakarta police, meanwhile, said preliminary questioning of the suspect shows signs of emotional distress. Metro Jaya Police spokesman Commissioner Budi Hermanto said the student appeared to express frustration in class not through direct confrontation but via drawings and written notes.

“It’s a reminder that we need to pay attention to what children write or draw in their learning environment,” Budi said.

Police also revealed CCTV footage confirming the student carried two bags into the school --one backpack and another hand-held bag--  believed to contain explosive materials. Densus 88, Indonesia’s counter-terror police unit, found seven explosive devices at the school. Four detonated in two separate locations, while three failed to explode.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the source of the bomb materials. Investigators are still examining evidence, interviewing witnesses and completing forensic assessments before issuing a full conclusion.

Police stressed the investigation is being conducted with extra caution due to the suspect’s age and the presence of hazardous materials.
