Jakarta. The Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (Kontras) said on Wednesday (Sept. 10) that three protesters remain missing following nationwide demonstrations in late August 2025.

Kontras’ Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya identified the missing as Reno Syahputra Dewo and Muhammad Farhan Hamid, who were last seen at the Mobile Brigade Command (Mako Brimob) in Kwitang, Central Jakarta, and Bima Permana Putra, last spotted in Glodok, West Jakarta. “As of Sept. 10, three people have not yet been found,” Dimas said in Jakarta.

Since opening a complaint post for missing persons linked to the protests, Kontras has received 44 reports. At one point, ten people were listed as missing, but seven were later confirmed to be in police custody.

“Most of those reported missing were eventually found in police detention. One was located at the West Java Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) building, while the others were held at various police stations,” Dimas explained.

Kontras said it is still verifying the whereabouts of the three missing protesters by checking police offices from the precinct to provincial levels, as well as hospitals, while maintaining communication with families.

Beyond the missing persons cases, Kontras urged comprehensive reforms within the National Police (Polri), citing misconduct in the handling of the August protests. The organization’s investigation documented multiple violations, including the death of online motorcycle taxi driver, Affan Kurniawan, and police failure to ensure public safety.

“We call for an evaluation and reform of these practices,” Dimas stressed.

Kontras also called for National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo to step down, citing repeated failures in handling mass protests. “The August demonstrations were not the first to result in casualties and police brutality. We see a recurring pattern over the past five years,” Dimas said.

The group further urged the government to establish an independent fact-finding team (TGPF) involving external watchdogs such as Komnas HAM, the National Police Commission, the Child Protection Commission, and civil society figures.

“We are pushing for a joint fact-finding team composed of independent state bodies with the capacity and experience to conduct a credible investigation,” Dimas concluded.
