Israel-Iran War: Indonesia Takes Steps to Make Sure Citizens Are Safe
Jakarta. Indonesia is planning to take the necessary steps to make sure that its citizens in Iran are safe and sound after Israel launched a US-backed military campaign against Tehran.
Multiple explosions have been heard in Tehran on Saturday morning local time. This marks a major escalation in Washington’s negotiations to address Iran’s nuclear program. About 386 Indonesians live in Iran as of mid-2025. Many of them are students. The Indonesian embassy in Tehran is now engaging in intense communication with the nationals there, according to Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Vahd Nabyl A Mulachela.
“We will keep making thorough assessments of the security situation and take the necessary steps to ensure Indonesians’ safety. We call on the Indonesians to stay calm, be extra cautious, and follow instructions by local authorities,” Nabyl told the Jakarta Globe via text.
Beyond citizen protection, Indonesia has not issued an official statement on the latest escalations as of this writing. The Iranian government has also called on Jakarta to “firmly and openly condemn” the Israeli-US aggression.
Indonesia has set up hotlines at +98 9914668845 / +98 902 466 8889 via its Tehran embassy.
A hotline connecting to the Foreign Ministry’s citizen protection department is also available at +62 812-9007-0027.
