Iran Slams US Intervention, Wants to Maintain Ties with Indonesia
Jakarta. The Iranian Embassy in Indonesia has slammed the US intervention in response to the nationwide protests.
Government crackdown on the protests have prompted US President Donald Trump to launch threats. Trump has threatened military action, and recently, announced 25% tariffs on countries doing business with Iran. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had also expressed support for the Iranian protesters.
"Iran expresses its deep and serious concern over the blatant interventionist attitudes and actions of some foreign actors, particularly the US and the Zionist regime," the embassy's statement reads.
"These explicit and interventionist statements and attitudes by officials of both parties, which include incitement to violence, incitement to incite unrest, threats of violence, and legitimization of internal destabilization, constitute a clear violation of the fundamental principles of international law and the UN Charter."
"Pparticularly the principles of national sovereignty, non-interference in the internal affairs of states, and the prohibition on the threat or use of force.
In a press statement, the Iranian embassy wrote that Tehran would like to maintain its friendly ties with Indonesia based on "mutual respect".
"Iran considers dialogue and cooperation as the best path to strengthening peace, stability, and peaceful coexistence at the regional and international levels," the embassy said.
