JCI Gains 0.22% on Stable Inflation, Trade Surplus Support
Jakarta. Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) extended its gains, closing up 15 points, or 0.22%, at 6,957 on Monday, supported by easing geopolitical tensions and steady domestic macroeconomic data.
Trading activity remained robust, with volume reaching 60 billion shares and turnover totaling Rp 21 trillion ($1.2 billion), across more than 2.4 million transactions. Market breadth was slightly negative, with 327 gainers, 357 decliners, and 134 unchanged stocks.
Top gainers included Bumi Citra Permai (BCIP), which surged 34.85%, Wijaya Cahaya Timber (FWCT) rising 34.83%, Yanaprima Hastapersada (YPAS) jumping 24.69%, and DFI Retail Nusantara (HERO) climbing 24.47%.
On the losing side, Rohartindo Nusantara Luas (TOOL) fell 15%, Asuransi Dayin Mitra (ASDM) dropped 14.63%, Sidomulyo Selaras (SDMU) declined 14.29%, and Black Diamond (COAL) slid 12.12%.
Pilarmas Investindo Sekuritas said regional Asian markets also moved higher, tracking improving sentiment as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East began to ease.
“The main sentiment came from US President Donald Trump’s statement signaling progress in US–Iran peace negotiations and plans to secure shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz,” Pilarmas wrote in its research on Monday.
According to Pilarmas, the developments have eased concerns over global oil supply disruptions, helping to stabilize energy prices and reduce inflationary pressures. Lower geopolitical risk has also boosted risk appetite, encouraging investors to return to equity markets.
Domestically, the firm noted that gains in the JCI were supported by macroeconomic data releases. The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported April 2026 inflation at 0.13% month-to-month and 2.42% year-on-year, remaining within a stable range.
Meanwhile, Indonesia recorded a $3.32 billion trade surplus in March 2026, with exports rising 3.10% to $22.53 billion and imports increasing 1.51% to $19.21 billion.
“This surplus is seen as strengthening Indonesia’s external resilience amid global uncertainty,” Pilarmas said.
However, pressure remains in the manufacturing sector. S&P Global reported Indonesia’s manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) fell to 49.1 in April 2026 from 50.1 previously, indicating a return to contraction.
The decline was driven by weakening purchasing power, slowing production, and rising raw material prices amid ongoing global supply chain disruptions.
Globally, shares were mixed across Europe and Asia on Monday. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng jumped 1.2% to 26,095, while South Korea’s Kospi surged 5.1% to 6,936, led by a 5.4% rally in Samsung Electronics shares. Markets in mainland China and Japan were closed for the Golden Week holidays.
Oil prices rebounded sharply, with US benchmark crude rising $1.80 to $103.73 per barrel and Brent crude climbing $2.23 to $110.40, as the US moved to secure shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz.
“The oil market remains the fulcrum, with hundreds of tankers, bulk carriers, and cargo ships still stranded across the Gulf, idling as storage constraints force producers to shut production simply because there is nowhere left to store it,” said Stephen Innes of SPI Asset Management.
Trump said “Project Freedom” would begin Monday morning in the Middle East. The US Central Command said the operation would involve guided-missile destroyers, more than 100 aircraft, and 15,000 personnel, though details on deployment remain unclear.
On Wall Street, the S&P 500 rose 0.3% to a record 7,230 on Friday, marking a fifth consecutive weekly gain. The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 0.3% to 49,499, while the Nasdaq Composite climbed 0.9% to a record 25,114.
