Indonesia Sends Frigate, Troops for Russia’s Orruda Military Drill
Jakarta. The Indonesian Navy is sending a guided-missile frigate and troops to the joint military exercise Orruda in Russia.
Orruda is the flagship naval exercise between the Indonesian Navy and its Russian counterpart. This year, the drills are taking place in the port city of Vladivostok and will run until August 18.
“We are sending the KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai-332 frigate, our underwater demolition unit Kopaska, divers, and medical personnel,” Navy spokesman Tunggul told the press in Jakarta on Monday, as reported by the state news agency Antara.
The outlet wrote that the deployment also included helicopter(s), without going into details on how many units Jakarta is sending. The KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai-332 was a partnership between shipmakers PT PAL and Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding (DSNS) from the Netherlands.
According to Tunggul, the ship is still en route to Vladivostok.
The drills followed the inaugural Orruda joint exercises in the Java Sea back in 2024. Indonesia had also sent the KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai-332 that year.
