Indonesia Regrets Attack on UAE Envoy's Home in Khartoum
Jakarta. The recent attack on the Emirati ambassador’s home in the conflict-hit Sudanese capital of Khartoum has caught the Indonesian government's attention.
In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry on Tuesday, Indonesia said that it was “deeply concerned” by the ongoing Sudan conflict, which has entered its 17th month. This includes the attack on the Emirati diplomatic post, although Indonesia did not point fingers on who was responsible for the strike.
“Indonesia regrets the attack on the UAE [United Arab Emirates] ambassador’s residence in Khartoum. The protection of all diplomatic premises must continue to be respected,” the Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.
Earlier this week, the UAE revealed that a Sudanese military aircraft had attacked their diplomatic post in Khartoum. The Sudanese army had denied accusations of them being the ones who launched the attack, although they had repeatedly accused the UAE of arming the rival paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The Emirati Foreign Ministry said that the ambassador’s home suffered from extensive damage from the attack.
A war between the Sudanese army and the RSF broke out in April 2023. Khartoum has been a major battleground since the beginning of the conflict.
Indonesia has also repatriated its citizens from the conflict-struck country. Most of the Indonesians living in Khartoum were students.
