Jakarta. Indonesia is keeping its work-from-home policies for government workers.

Southeast Asia's biggest economy first introduced the policy in April as a move to cut fuel-related spending amid global crude price hikes. Over the past few months, government workers did not have to go to the office every Friday. Muhammad Qodari, head of the government communications agency, revealed that this policy would remain in place this month, citing its effect on work culture and digital transformation.

"We believe that this new work culture will produce a more modern, agile, and efficient bureaucracy," Qodari said.

He went on to say that the work-from-home policy has sped up the use of digital systems. The continuation, however, remains subject to evaluations to ensure that the flexibility does not take toll on the quality of public services.

Certain public services also remain fully operational. This includes healthcare services, education, and permit-related services.

The government will also be more selective in conducting their business trips.

 Civil servants are also encouraged to use public transportation to support energy savings, reduce environmental impact, and increase state budget efficiency.

When the government rolled out the policy in April, estimates claimed that it could result in a combined Rp 59 trillion (almost $3.3 billion) in fuel spending.
