Jakarta. Indonesia has officially granted visa-free entry to citizens of Kazakhstan, effective July 9, 2026, in a move aimed at strengthening tourism, trade, investment, and bilateral relations between the two countries.

The policy, enacted under Immigration and Corrections Ministerial Regulation No. 10/2026, adds Kazakhstan to Indonesia's visa-free visit program alongside Turkey, Brazil, Peru, Belarus, and China's Macau Special Administrative Region.

Indonesian Ambassador to Kazakhstan Fadjroel Rachman welcomed the decision, calling it a milestone in the diplomatic relationship between the two countries.

He said the reciprocal visa-free arrangement — Kazakhstan already allows Indonesians to enter without a visa — is expected to encourage greater tourism, business exchanges and investment flows.

Fadjroel projected that stronger connectivity between Southeast Asia's largest economy and Central Asia's biggest economy could help double bilateral trade to around $2 billion within the next three to five years. He added that several agreements covering politics, business, culture, and education are also nearing completion.

Immigration and Correctional Affairs Minister Agus Andrianto said the expansion of Indonesia's visa-free program followed a comprehensive evaluation in line with Presidential Regulation No. 95/2024.

He said the government considered reciprocity, national security, tourism benefits, economic and investment potential, and other strategic factors before approving the additional countries.

"The policy is based on mutual benefit rather than being granted unconditionally," Agus said.

The government expects the expanded visa-free scheme to attract more foreign visitors while strengthening Indonesia's economic ties with key international partners.

Indonesia and Kazakhstan established diplomatic relations in 1993. Officials say the reciprocal visa-free arrangement will remove administrative barriers that previously limited travel for tourists and business travelers, while opening opportunities to tap Kazakhstan's growing middle class, whose demand for overseas travel has been rising.
