Jakarta. Indonesian immigration authorities have deported a Chinese national wanted by his government for allegedly defrauding victims of 12.7 million yuan ($1.8 million).

The suspect, identified by his initials XP, was flown to Guangzhou from Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport on Saturday, Immigration Director General Yuldi Yusman said on Sunday.

XP was arrested in Bali’s Tabanan area on July 10 for violating visa regulations, following a tip-off from Chinese authorities.

“The deportation was carried out in full compliance with applicable laws and human rights principles, while also promoting international cooperation,” Yuldi said in a statement.

According to the statement, Guangzhou prosecutors had charged XP with financial fraud before he fled China and was later traced to Indonesia.

“Indonesia is committed to helping our international partners and ensuring that our country does not become a safe haven for fugitives,” Yuldi added.
