Indonesia Commemorates TNI's 79th Anniversary with Grand Military Parade and Rock Concert

Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo led the 79th anniversary celebration of the Indonesian Military (TNI) at Silang Monas in Central Jakarta on Saturday, featuring a military parade and performances by popular Indonesian musicians.

Jokowi was accompanied by key officials, including President-elect Prabowo Subianto, his eldest son and Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, and National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo. Vice President Ma'ruf Amin and his wife, Wury Amin, also joined President Jokowi at the main stage.

As the ceremony's inspector, President Jokowi oversaw the TNI anniversary events, assisted by the TNI Commander and the chiefs of staff from the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The celebration featured appearances by various ministers, officials, and public figures, including Sinta Nuriyah, the wife of Indonesia's fourth president, Abdurrahman Wahid.

The event showcased demonstrations by TNI personnel and a parade of 1,059 defense systems from the Army, Navy, and Air Force. It also included performances by popular Indonesian musicians like Ari Lasso and Dewa 19, enhancing the festive atmosphere.

Open to the public and free of charge, the celebration began at 7:05 a.m. and was scheduled to conclude at 10:26 p.m. Vice President Ma'ruf Amin highlighted the TNI's transformation into a modern, strong, and professional defense institution over its 79 years, noting its significant contributions to Indonesia. He urged the TNI to continue adapting to technological advancements to meet global challenges, particularly in cybersecurity and asymmetric warfare.

The event attracted large crowds to Silang Monas, with attendees arriving early to enjoy the festivities, which included parades, demonstrations, and a music festival.
